The Binational Consortium UA-UNAM on Migration, Human Security, and Human Rights is pleased to announce our 2023 Faculty Research Travel Funding:
To contribute to the consolidation of such collaborative efforts, “The Consortium” will award up to six Faculty Research Travel Grants (FRTG) during the 2023 calendar year, to support mobility in each direction between CH-UNAM and SBS-UA. Each university will award six such grants. Applications must be received by March 27, 2023 the extended deadline April 17, 2023 to support travel to take place before December 31, 2023.
Awards:
Funding up to $1,500 USD will be awarded for up to 6 proposals led by UA SBS faculty. Each FRTG will cover awardee’s transportation and per diem expenses up to $1,500. Funds should be expended before December 31, 2023.
Applicants must comply with all the requirements established in the call and propose specific activities to be undertaken during travel to advance binational collaboration between UA and UNAM on the main fields of the consortium. Such activities must ultimately support the development of grant applications to specific external funding sponsors.
Deadline: Applications must be received by March 27, 2023.

Abstracts may include a short description of the communities and/or organizations involved, outcomes or impact; community or system engagement, challenges and successes, and hopes/vision for the future. Abstracts are limited to 250 words and should include a contact individual.

UA-UNAM Consortium: Faculty Research Travel Grant Opportunity
SBS and the Binational Consortium UA-UNAM on Migration, Human Security, and Human Rights is pleased to announce a travel grant opportunity to support development of research collaborations with the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) that have potential to garner external funding.
“The Consortium” will award up to 10 Faculty Research Travel Grants (FRTG) during the 2019 fiscal year, five to support mobility in each direction. Travel funding up to $1,500 USD will be awarded for up to 5 proposals led by UA SBS faculty.
Applicants must (1) articulate the relevance of the proposed collaboration to the Consortium’s mission; (2) identify at least one host collaborator in UNAM’s Coordination of Humanities, a large division encompassing humanities, social sciences, and law; (3) and identify at least one external funding proposal whose development the travel would facilitate.
Applications must be received by June 30, 2019, to support travel to take place within 6 months of award notification. The deadline is rolling. Meritorious proposals will be funded in the order received until available funds are expended.

Since 2009 a group of universities, research centers, and governmental organizations made it a priority to organize a series of events to analyze the question of human development in the US-Mexico border region from a transboundary perspective. Since then, important academic goals have been met by a diverse group of actors from the Sonora-Arizona border region. In 2016, the Human Development Network expanded its scope to all North America in the context of the complex and changing social structures of the region.

Undergraduate Research Assistant – Event Data Coding & Analysis

If you are passionate about political and organized criminal violence, and you have an interest in using big data to analyze conflict processes in Latin America, then this position is for you.We are looking for current undergraduate students that are native Spanish speakers and are interested in working on two important projects dedicated to better understanding the trends of political and criminal violence that affect Latin America. One project is funded by the National Science Foundation and the other one by the Department of Defense.This is an opportunity for you to develop the skills necessary for a future in big data generation and analysis in the security sector. In this project, you will acquire competence on text analysis software and methodologies and substantial knowledge relevant to political science, criminal justice, and public policy. As Research Assistant (RA) you will directly code, analyze, and validate information on violence, protests, and organized criminal activity in Latin America. This research experience will help you develop a number of core skills relevant in today’s job market.
Applicant Requirements:
• Native Spanish speaker, with advanced proficiency in reading and writing
• Strong analytical thinking skills
• Good computer skills with attention to detail
• Open to Majors in: Political Science, Criminal Justice Studies, Public Management and Policy, Spanish, Latin American Studies, Hispanic Linguistics, Translation and Interpretation, Computer Science, and Communication.
Job specifics:
• 10 hours a week (.25 FTE)
• $13.50 per hour
• Schedule flexibility is required
• Meetings at Social Sciences Building, room # 125

XLIV Symposium of History and Anthropology
"Globalization and Transnationalism, Historical Perspectives"

The University of Sonora through the Department of History and Anthropology, in collaboration with the University of Arizona SBS Mexico Initiatives, the Sonora College, the Food and Development Research Center, the Historical Studies Network of Northern Mexico, the National Institute of Anthropology and History (Centro INAH Sonora) and the Sonoran Society of History.
Organize and call to:
Historians, social researchers, academic entities, chroniclers, and anyone interested in the fields of History and Social Sciences to participate in the XLIV Symposium on History and Anthropology, which aims to be a space for knowledge, dialogue, and reflections on the results of diverse studies and experiences in the field of global, transnational, cross-border processes; as well as revisions of nationalism in the current era and in general any historical studies.
Papers should address either of the following topics:
- Global and transnational historical studies.
- Work, rights, economy, and culture
- Families, borders, and transnational mobility
- Routes, travelers, exchanges, and projects.
- The anthropological dimension of the transnational phenomenon
- Concepts, categories, and new periodization.
- Methodologies, techniques, and approaches to the above fields.
- Concepts, categories, and evaluations of the above fields
Process:
- For registration, you must send an abstract of the paper with a minimum length of one page (300 words) no later than October 30, 2018 to the email address simposio@sociales.uson.mx attaching a short curriculum (one page).
- The abstract will be reviewed by a committee. If accepted you will be notified no later than November 10, 2018.
- Academic entities, groups, Networks or Research teams, can register at special thematic tables.
- The time available for speaker will be 20 minutes.
- Whoever wishes to participate in the monographic publication that will be proposed, should follow the Chicago Manual of Style. The contribution must not be longer than 20 pages, Arial 12, 1.5 line space.
- For publication, the papers will be submitted to a peer review process. The work should be delivered no later than March 15, 2019.
- A link will be made available for the submission of the paper, and the editorial information that the authors will have to complete in accordance.
- The Organizing Committee will solve all the matters not foreseen in this call.
VII Conference on Gender Studies in North Mexico Call for Papers
