The Heard Museum seeks a part-time Visitor Services Assistant whose primary responsibilities are to promote an exceptional visitor experience and help grow the museum’s Membership program. Schedule will be weekends, occasional weekdays and evenings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist guests; Maintain a good working knowledge of the Museum’s programs, exhibitions, collections, activities, tours, staff, and facilities in order to assist with visitor greeting and orientation.
- Provide general information about the Museum and its exhibitions, the Café, Cantina, Books and More, Gift Shop, facility rentals, and upcoming events
- Receive members and visitors, answer, and direct incoming telephone calls, take messages and problem solve.
- Enforce museum polices and facilitate visitor flow in admissions area.
- Actively promote Museum memberships sales and assist with potential member questions onsite and over the phone.
- Sell admission and event tickets by accurately processing point of sale transactions and reconciling your drawer at closing.
- Effectively handle evacuations and difficult situations according to Museum policy. Provide First Aid care to those in need.
- Proactively seek and obtain information regarding Museum policies/promotions, activities, and events to provide a high level of positive customer service experiences to all Museum guests and potential facility rental clients.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school graduate or equivalent, some college preferred, with a minimum of one year customer service and point of sale experience.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Have previous customer service experience.
- Have previous cash-handling experience, preferably on a Point-of-Sale ticketing system, and be comfortable handling money transactions. This position requires basic level math skills to be able to make and produce correct change for museum patrons and calculation of daily museum deposits.
- Learn CPR, AED, First Aid, and emergency evacuation procedures
- Develop a working knowledge of the permanent collection
- Be willing to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays
- Previous experience working in a museum, educational, historical or cultural setting preferred.
COMPUTER SOFTWARE:
- Blackbaud Altru experience a plus
- Office 365
