ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Parks and Recreation Department provides residents and visitors more than 41,000 acres of desert parks and mountain preserves. The parks feature 41 trailheads and more than 200 miles of trails, and 185 city parks. Additionally, there are 32 community and recreation centers, classes and sports programs for all ages, 29 pools, eight golf courses, and a variety of specialty and cultural venues and facilities.

The Museum Aide supports the daily operation of the S'edav Va'aki Museum by completing technical museological work. The current vacancies include one position that has primary responsibility for support of the Museum's website and social media platforms and special event coordination. Other duties include visitor services activities. Detailed instructions are provided with each new assignment; however, Musuem Aides are expected to exercise independent judgment in the completion of assigned tasks. A high standard of exemplary guest services is expected. Supervision is received from the Museum Assistant for Visitor Services.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Ability to lift 50lbs without accommodation.
  • Knowledge and experience posting and managing a variety of social media accounts.

SALARY

$17.41 (minimum) - $25.35 (maximum) hourly

BENEFITS

Part-time employees are eligible for earned paid sick time, city training, and free or discounted bus and light rail fares.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year of experience in archaeological or museum work.
  • College course work in archaeology, anthropology, or a related field.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

  • These positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

Experience in: 

  • Posting and managing a variety of social media accounts.
  • Leading museum educational classes and programs.
  • Customer/Visitor service and cash handling skills.
  • Coordinating educational events such as lecture series, conferences, workshops.
  • Uploading information and managing websites.
  • Creating press releases and maintaining media contacts.
  • Working with volunteers.
  • Public speaking.
