Description

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science seeks a Science Data Administrator to work within the Integrative Collections Team to manage digital collections data and databases. This position is a vital member of the collections team, working to manage and share metadata and digital assets related to over 4 million objects and specimens in the collections.

This position will serve as application administrator for the museum’s collections databases , working to configure, maintain, test, and integrate systems while serving as the collections team liaison to the IT department. This position will provide user support to the collections team and other museum users of these systems, including troubleshooting, training, supporting collections staff in data normalization, creating custom reports/ imports/exports, and acting as liaison to outside software vendors. 

Continued digitization of the collections is a museum priority and this position will play an integral part in planning and implementing digitization projects. We’re looking for a highly motivated team-player, passionate about museum collections and who understands the importance of providing access to collections metadata and digital assets.  

 

This position reports to the Director of Integrative Collections. 

Work Schedule: Hybrid, up to 2 days remote

Essential Duties:

  • Maintains and implements product configuration and administration for collections management and digital asset management systems ( EMu , Arctos, Symbiota / SCAN, NetX )
  • Serves as liaison from Integrative Collections department to IT and external software vendors
  • Provides high level of user support for collections management systems and digital asset management system
  • Designs and implements custom data imports, exports, and reports as required by users
  • Implements and maintains integrations of collections management systems , DAMS system, and external aggregators ( e.g. GBIF)
  • Maintains current software use and training at an expert level for both collections and digital asset management systems
  • Works with collections staff to identify and mitigate data and metadata integrity issues. 

 

Minimum qualifications /Requirements:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field related to natural or cultural history, museum studies, archives or library science, or computer science. Equivalent work experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree   
  • 5 years’ experience working with museum collections and associated collections data and digitization projects 
  • 3 years’ experience administering museum collections management systems or industry equivalent  

 

Ideal candidate will have (not required, but preferred)  

  • Experience with EMu and Arctos collections management systems  
  • Experience with Digital Asset Management Systems, NetX preferred
  • Experience with custom report building , including Crystal Reports
  • Successful track record of providing support to a team of 30+ users of multiple software solutions
  • Experience preparing budgets, reports, workflows, and standard procedures for collections digitization projects
