Museum Services Assistant s (MSAs) will be responsible for a successful guest experience in the Museum. They must provide a high level of customer service and satisfaction to ensure an excellent experience for all visitors and are responsible for a broad range of activities including overseeing access control, engaging with guests in the exhibit spaces, handling questions and complaints, monitor guest compliance with Museum safety/visitor protocols, and facilitating entry/egress screening. MSA’s provide a welcoming, safe, secure environment for the Museum’s collections, its members, visitors, volunteers, and staff while maintaining the Museum’s customer service standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist guests; provide direction to collections, exhibitions, and Museum amenities to enhance their visit. Provide general information about the Museum and its exhibitions, the Café, Cantina, Books and More, Gift Shop, facility rentals, and upcoming events.
- Greet visitors and offer guidance. Remain alert and watchful, circulate frequently through post assignments to deter acts of vandalism, theft or negligence, and ensure the safety and positive experience of visitors.
- Museum policies; report accidents, injuries and/or hazardous conditions. Advise Security Dispatch of any areas of the Museum that require cleaning and/or maintenance for the safety of others.
- Perform safety checks of the premises, responsible for securing egress points, and lighting systems
- Effectively handle evacuations and difficult situations according to Museum policy.
- Provide First Aid care to those in need.
- Assist in the take-down of special events.
- Proactively seek and obtain information regarding Museum policies/promotions, activities, and events to provide a high level of positive customer service experiences to all Museum guests and potential facility rental clients
- Actively promote Museum memberships
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school graduate or equivalent with a minimum of one year customer service experience.
REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Willing to complete First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must:
- Have a basic knowledge of customer service best practices and possess good communication skills.
- Enjoy working with the public, meeting new people, and working with volunteers.
- Learn CPR, AED, First Aid, and emergency evacuation procedures
- Develop a working knowledge of the permanent collection
- Be willing to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays
