The Salem Public Library is seeking Library Interns. The ideal candidates have good time management skills, are comfortable adapting to changing priorities, and enjoy working with diverse Library customers and staff.
This job opportunity will be used to fill four Library Internship for eligible graduate or undergraduate students. Work will consist of up to 24 hours per week, various shifts across a seven day a week operation, including evenings and weekends. This position is a temporary position and is not eligible for benefits.
What you will do:
As a Library Intern you will assist with processing returns, pulling hold requests, shelving library materials and assisting library patrons with basic directional questions.
Learn and grow:
The Library provides unique learning opportunities for college students to gain customer service experience in a library setting, learn organizational and data entering skills, and to develop overall job skills. The Salem Public Library has provided many Library Interns with career-building experience for future employers.
What you will bring along:
Relevant customer service experience.- Ability to shelve library materials alphabetically and by using the Dewey Decimal system.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Computer skills and experience with MS Office products.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule of at least 15-20 hours a week, including Saturday and/or Sunday.
- Previous experience or knowledge of libraries.
- Spanish language skills are not required but are a plus.
What are the minimum qualifications?
- Must pass the pre-employment background check and drug test (including marijuana).
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment into an accredited school of higher education and one year experience in retail, grocery, office work, or other relevant customer service positions.
- Applicants that graduated within the last six months will still be considered.
- Bilingual skills preferred.
