Foundational Sciences Liaison Librarian

The University of Delaware Library, Museums and Press seeks a service oriented, proactive, and collaborative individual who is passionate about helping current and future scientists to join our liaison team as the Foundational Sciences Liaison Librarian. To support increased interdisciplinarity across the sciences, this crucial new position will serve as liaison to core science disciplines in the College of Arts and Sciences, with a particular focus on undergraduate information literacy and research. Reporting to the Head of the Research and Engagement Department, this position has responsibility for the provision of instruction, collection development and research support in assigned subject areas. This position will have the opportunity to work with peers and with the Research and Engagement department head to develop strategies and assessment for library outreach to undergraduate researchers in the sciences and will work collaboratively with other liaison librarians and specialists both within and outside of the sciences team.

Major Responsibilities:

• Coordinate liaison services to the Undergraduate Research program and undergraduate researchers within the sciences

• Develop and sustain effective working relationships and foster collaborations and partnerships with faculty, students and administrators in assigned areas

• Serve as liaison to core science disciplines in the College of Arts and Sciences, including Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Linguistics and Cognitive Science, and Physics and Astronomy

• Develop, deliver, and assess disciplinary focused instruction in alignment with curricular goals, and provide both general and specialized reference and research services

• Work with colleagues to develop collections that meet the research and curricular needs of undergraduate and graduate students and faculty in the sciences

• Develop learning materials to support key courses in assigned departments such as course guides, research guides, and other instructional and outreach materials

• Provide support to colleagues by working collaboratively with the Student Success and Curriculum Partnerships department to develop materials and approaches to instruction which foster information literacy among undergraduates in the sciences 

• Maintain active engagement in professional development and other scholarly activities

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in library science and undergraduate degree in STEM field; advanced degree in STEM field with relevant work experience in an academic or research library; or equivalent combination of education and experience

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal communication skills

• Knowledge of information sources related to biological sciences and chemistry research

• Strong presentation skills

• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively

• Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable educational environment and workplace, and an ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population

• Experience supporting undergraduate student researchers, preferred

• Experience teaching and assessing student learning in multiple modalities, preferred

• Experience supporting advanced researchers in the sciences in an academic setting, preferred

Appointment: Appointment expected at the rank of Assistant Librarian, pay grade 29E (less than 3 years professional experience), or Senior Assistant Librarian, pay grade 30E (3-8 years professional experience).
