Position Highlights The University of Arizona Libraries seeks two temporary Library Services Associates to support the transfer of large quantities of library materials within and between library locations (Main Library/Weaver Library/Health Sciences Library), while keeping items in Library of Congress classification order. The expected duration of employment for these temporary positions is two years.

As Library Services Associate, you will be assigned to the Collection Maintenance Unit of the Collection Services Department. Job duties include sorting, moving, and shelving library materials, pulling deselected materials from shelves, boxing, surplusing, or recycling materials, and weighing boxes.

This is an Extended Temporary Employment (ETE) position.

Work schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm.

Duties & Responsibilities

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

  • Shift/move large amounts of material at Main/Weaver/UAHS Libraries to clear shelves for compact shelving upgrades, to redistribute oversized items, alleviate crowding, and to free up shelving for future growth.
  • Assist Collection Maintenance and Facilities with surplus shipments, boxing and moving materials with handcarts.
  • Collection Maintenance duties including shelving and assisting with material handling tasks as required.
  • The UA Libraries support the UA’s diversity and inclusiveness strategic initiatives designed to create an inclusive environment for all faculty, staff, and students. The candidate is expected to support diversity and inclusiveness efforts in the department and college.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of Library of Congress or Dewey Decimal library call number systems.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and rules and use proper safety equipment.
  • Ability to transfer books with accuracy.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Ability to follow verbal and/or written instructions from the direct supervisor. 
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision, take initiative, use good judgment, and apply solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative and inclusive environment, one that values and leverages the benefits of diverse perspectives.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks requiring bending, stretching, kneeling, lifting, pushing heavy carts and standing for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with filing, inventory, or stocking shelves.
