Description

The Desert Southwest Conference is excited to announce an open position for the Conference Archivist. This role is responsible for collecting, preserving, and making accessible the historically significant records of the annual conference, its agencies, and outside researchers. The ideal candidate will encourage and assist the local churches in preserving their records, compiling their histories, and celebrating their heritage to maintain a historical and archival depository and to see that all items that clearly will have value for future history are properly preserved therein.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the Records Management program, including preparing, maintaining, and implementing retention schedules for the Conference, District Offices, General Agencies, and various committees.
  • Processes archival material according to current professional standards, including creating and maintaining finding aids.
  • Develops, maintains, and enforces policies and procedures for archives.
  • Creates and maintains catalog records for books and printed materials.
  • Provides archival reference services for Conference staff and external researchers, including researching and answering reference questions for the Conference, District Offices, General Agencies, committees, and members.
  • Shares historical news and articles to the Conference and outside researchers.
  • Provides training and support on Records Management procedures to Conference, Districts, and Local Church staff.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in history, museum studies, or related field or equivalent experience is required.
  • At least one year previous experience processing, arranging, describing, and cataloging archival information is required.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with current archival arrangement, description, and cataloging standards (Including DACS, EAD, Marc21).
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of preservation standards for multiple formats.
  • Knowledge of Records Management principles and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of The United Methodist Church and The Book of Discipline is preferred but not required.

Additional Considerations:

  • Hybrid position, working both remotely and in the Phoenix Conference Office.
  • Part-time position, approximately 15 hours per week.
  • Salary Range: $16.22 to $23.99 an hour (non-exempt).
