City Center for Collaborative Learning (City High School and Paulo Freire Freedom Schools) are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic school library intern to join our team and gain hands-on experience in the field of library science. This internship is ideal for students currently enrolled in a Library Science program.
The school library is a living collection of titles in fiction, nonfiction, Spanish, and bilingual reading materials with approximately 10,000 books. The school supports students in grades 6 through 12. We recently have revamped our PFFS-University campus library and are looking to go through a similar process with our downtown campus (City High School and PFFS-Downtown).
The successful candidate will coordinate with the Library Committee to assist with a range of tasks related to library management. Key responsibilities will include:
-
Supporting students in grades 6 through 12 in locating reading materials for learning and enjoyment
-
Assisting with collection development, including the selection and acquisition of new materials
-
Helping to create and maintain the library’s online catalog and circulation system
-
Supporting library programming, including book clubs, author visits, classroom curriculum engagement, and other literacy-based initiatives such as Banned Books Week
-
Upholding the library’s mission, policies, and procedures, as well as professional library standards and best practices including intellectual freedom and the ALA Library Bill of Rights
Candidates for this position should be enrolled in a Library Science program or have completed their degree within the past year. They should have excellent organizational and communication skills, as well as a strong interest in collaborating with student and parent volunteers.
The internship is unpaid, but offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience and make meaningful contributions to the school community. We are committed to providing a supportive and engaging learning environment, and will work closely with our intern to ensure a positive and enriching experience
