Description

The Heard Museum is looking for a positive, enthusiastic, detail oriented, and collaborative person to join our team as Public Engagement Manager. As a member of the Learning & Programs team at the Heard Museum, the Public Engagement Manager collaborates with the Director of Learning and Public Engagement and team to conceive and plan engaging programs, grounded in the Museum’s mission, values, and exhibitions, to more deeply engage current audiences and members, while inviting new audiences to experience, support, and engage with our work. This includes existing programs, like First Fridays at the Heard, Día del Niño, the World Hoop Dance Championship, and others, while creating new programs that align with current work and exhibitions and appeal to broader demographics. This position takes a leadership role in the strategic implementation of these virtual, on-site, and hybrid programs, and works directly with partners and vendors to produce professional and engaging cultural experiences. The Public Engagement Manager reports to the Director of Learning and Public Engagement.

Essential areas of responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide full managerial oversight for conceptualizing, planning, and implementing an identified portfolio of public programs for the Heard Museum that seek to engage diverse audiences.
  • Collaborate with Learning and Public Engagement team members and other museum staff to conceive, develop, and support mission-driven programs to engage existing audiences and build new ones.
  • Co-manage education and programs coordinator and any additional support staff, as required.
  • Logistical planning of events. Collaborate with events team and outside vendors to ensure a professional experience. Work with marketing team to promote these programs.
  • Recruit and contract with partner organizations, artists, and vendors to present year-round programs.
  • Manage budgets for existing and new projects.
  • Develop and track quantitative and qualitative goals for initiatives to report regularly on effectiveness. Work with team to make data- and mission-driven decisions on improving programs and improving, replacing, or removing programs that don’t meet or exceed expectations.
  • Collaboratively with Director of Learning and Public Engagement, develop and implement annual plans that align with institutional and departmental strategic plans and that respond flexibly to long-term objectives as well as current activities and opportunities. Engage and inform various constituencies (internal and external) about the plan as needed.
  • Support efforts by the Development Team to secure funding for education programming and to develop and maintain effective program evaluation methodologies.
  • Integrate audience participation opportunities throughout the Museum, in exhibitions and all other work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Employment Requirements:

  • Background check required.
  • Ability to manage programs on weekends and evenings, when necessary.

Salary: $50,000 to $60,000, commensurate with experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years’ experience in a corporate or non-profit events environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    Demonstrated ability to work on multiple programs simultaneously; detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • Previous experience working with partners and outside vendors; demonstrated success in the logistical planning of programs.
  • Experience with American Indian subject matter and knowledge.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Passion for a variety of artistic and popular culture genres.
