About the Program

Our M.S. in Information Science is a main campus only program and offers a highly interdisciplinary curriculum, community interaction opportunities, and an emphasis on information engagement. Our aim is to help you become an information professional who can solve real-world information problems and work across disciplines. 

You'll develop both social and technological skills and graduate with hands-on experience that blends behavioral, psychological, cultural, and philosophical perspectives.

Students have the choice to apply to M.S. Information Science, or directly to one of two sub-plans in either Machine Learning or Human-Centered Computing starting in Spring 2024.

Machine learning works to help manage and interpret large amounts of data by automating the processes by which models of data are built. This emphasis will prepare graduates to be innovative scientific leaders across sectors, graduates who understand the complexities of machine-learning as a particular kind of data science. This program is offered on main campus and through online and hybrid online-main campus studies through our partners at Great Learning.

Human-Centered Computing courses explore topics like simulations, virtual reality, human-computer interaction, user experience, and personal data-collection.

Progress to the Ph.D. Program

M.S. graduates with strong research interests are encouraged to apply to the Ph.D. program. Admission requirements are the same as the other candidates, but M.S. graduates may be able to waive certain courses.
