Bio: Jill Williams is an Associate Research Professor with the Southwest Institute for Research on Women, Director of the Women in Science and Engineering Program, and affiliate faculty in the School of Geography, Development and Environment and Department of Gender and Women's Studies.
Stephanie Murphy is an assistant research social scientist with the Southwest Institute for Research on Women.
Abstract: While research suggests that student academic experiences overall have been negatively impacted by the COVID-crisis, the unique characteristics of many STEM degree programs create particular challenges for STEM students. In this presentation, Jill Williams and Stephanie Murphy will are findings from research they're conducting to better understand UArizona STEM student experiences, with particular attention to how already underrepresented populations are being impacted. They will also offer suggestions for how individual faculty and departments might create responsive policies and practices capable of better supporting student persistence during this challenging time.
